The European Union renews its commitment to providing humanitarian support in Yemen

The European Union (EU) called for the revitalization of peace efforts in Yemen, which stopped as a result of regional and local tensions during the recent period, and renewed its commitment to continuing to provide humanitarian and development support to the country.
The European Union Council said in a press statement, on Tuesday: “In light of the disturbing regional developments, the continued deterioration of the humanitarian situation, and against the background of the increasing risk of renewed internal fighting, the Union calls for renewing the momentum of peace efforts in Yemen, and preventing a return to a comprehensive war in this critical stage.”
The statement emphasized the European Union’s support for the United Nations Mediation and the regional initiatives aimed at a sustainable ceasefire in Yemen, “We are ready to increase our direct participation in facilitating the return of different parties to dialogue in order to reach a comprehensive political settlement dealing with the political, economic and security dimensions of the conflict.”
The European Union renewed its commitment to continuing the support of the internationally recognized presidential leadership council in their efforts to enhance comprehensive reforms and good governance, combat corruption, and to address the seriously deteriorating economic situation in the country. We urge them to enhance internal unity and improve the provision of basic services and rights, as a basis for achieving political and economic stability.
The statement pointed out that the European Union and its member state "will remain committed to continuing to provide humanitarian and development aid to Yemen, with the aim of improving living conditions through investing in economic recovery and reforms, and enhancing the ability of the state and society to withstand the fields of food security, agriculture, electricity and water, sanitation and hygiene services, and work to improve the population access to basic services, with a special focus on women And youth. ”
The statement condemned the random attacks by the Houthis on international maritime navigation in the Red Sea, and on Israel, which “directly threatens regional peace and stability, global trade, freedom of navigation, and the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen.”
While the European Union expressed its concern about the continued suppression of civil society and the rights of women in Yemen, especially by the Houthi group, he renewed its demand for the group with the immediate and unconditional release of local employees in United Nations agencies, NGOs, diplomatic missions, and arbitrary detainees for nearly a year.
