Urgent: The UN special envoy to Yemen arrives in Sanaa after two years of absence

The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, arrived in the capital, Sanaa, today for his first visit in nearly two years. This visit comes at a sensitive time within the efforts of the international community to find political solutions to the Yemeni crisis that has been ongoing for years.
Yesterday, Grundberg concluded his visit to the Omani capital, Muscat, during which he met with the Omani Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the latest developments in political efforts aimed at settling the conflict in Yemen were discussed. During his visit to Muscat, the UN envoy also met with a Houthi spokesman, where he discussed with them ways to reduce the escalation in Yemen and called for the immediate release of detainees who were detained in the context of the ongoing conflict.
Grundberg's visit to Sana'a is an important step within the framework of strengthening United Nations efforts to revive peace talks between the warring parties, while emphasizing the need to end the war and achieve lasting stability in Yemen.
