The American Treasury imposes sanctions on the International Bank of Yemen for the Houthi support

The US Treasury announced today, Thursday, the imposition of sanctions on the International Bank of Yemen, for its involvement in supporting the Houthi militia.
Sanctions against the Houthis
The American Treasury said in a statement, "The Foreign Assets Control Office of the US Secretary of the Treasury today imposed sanctions on Yemen International Bank (IBY) based in Yemen, for its financial support for the Houthi militia, which is part of the Iranian threat network."
The American Ministry added in its statement that "in the context of this classification, the Foreign Assets Control Office also imposed sanctions on leaders or major officials at the International Bank of Yemen, namely Kamal Hussein Al -Jabri, Ahmed Thabet Noman Al -Absi and Abdul Qadir Ali Bazraa."

He pointed out that this classification completes the government efforts to stop the Iranian -backed Houthi attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
US Treasury Deputy Minister Michael Volwalkandar said: “Financial institutions such as the International Bank of Yemen are extremely important to the Houthi efforts to reach the international financial system, and they threaten the region and international trade alike.”
